Updates from Cleveland

My dad is doing pretty well for a week after hip surgery, but I am certain that I never want to have to have my hip replaced. Ouch! The hardest part is getting him in and out of bed, and up and down the stairs. However once I get him down the stairs and into his lazy boy where he spends the day, it's not bad. He's able to get up from his chair and do laps around the kitchen, dining room, and back to the living room with his walker. By laps I mean walking slower than a turtle, but at least he is moving. I get him his coffee, meals, pain pills, and just make sure he doesn't fall when he gets up from and into his chair. Today the nurse is coming to take out the staples and he starts therapy sometime this week too. The worst part is having to empty his urine bottle - sorry TMI. There are some things that I never thought I'd be doing for my father, but I suppose this is just the start of things to come considering he is almost 66 and only going to get older.

The highlight of my day was taking his dog Charlie for a walk around the neighborhood. Charlie (or Carlos as I call him) is a 10 year old yellow lab. He was the worst puppy in the world, so hyper, until he was about 5 years old. However now he is the best dog, so friendly and happy.

Not much else to share! Have a good one ladies!

Good for you taking care of your dad. My dad turned 68 this year and my sister called me all worried about having to take care of him in the future. (Never mind that she lives in Seattle and maybe sees him twice a year. Heh.)
Yay for good Charlie dogs!

You are a wonderful daughter emptying the urine bag, yuck! I'm so glad your dad is doing well.

I love labs, they're such great dogs, but only once they're older.
