Zumba

Tony and I are considering joining the YMCA around the corner from our house, so I went in yesterday for a tour. They gave me a free pass to one Zumba class, so I went back last night to Zumba the night away. I had never heard of it until yesterday, but apparently it's the next big exercise craze, so I clearly have been living under a rock. I loved it! It was so much fun and since I love Latin music, I was in heaven. Granted since I could see myself in the mirror I quickly realized that I cannot dance very well, however part of it was due to the fact that I wore my running shoes. If I decide to do this class I will have to get different shoes, something with a felt bottom so I can slide and turn quicker. I also realized while looking in the mirror that I need to do more cardio. Yoga is great, but unless I do the power yoga 5 days a week, I am not going to lose weight. I want to look like the Zumba teacher, thin and very toned. I've got 8-10 pounds that need to come off and a lot of toning to do before I'll even come close. My mirrors at my house must make me look better than I really do because I didn't realize I was so "plump" looking until I was in my sleek exercise clothes dancing next to the super hot Zumba teacher. Anyway it was great fun and even if we don't decide to join the YMCA as members, I'm going to sign up to take this class. Every Wednesday night I'll be burning 500 calories doing the Zumba!!! Has anyone else done Zumba?

I haven't, but a girl from my bunco league does it a couple times per week and LOVES it. She looks great, too! How fun!

I can't wait to meet you in person on Sunday!

I haven't, but it sounds like fun! Don't you hate that mirror thing? Somehow mirrors not in my house always make me gasp in horror at my reflection. But my mirrors make me think I look fantastic. I don't get it.

Sounds fun, I've heard of it, but never done it. I wish we lived close by, I'd take the class with you!

I'm in the same boat, I'm attempting to lose 10lbs that have slowly crept on in the past year or two.

Love the sound of Zumba. I love to dance when i exercise - it just makes you forget you're even exercising. I'm sure it hasn't reached here yet

That sounds really fun, and don't worry about the mirrors..they make special mirrors for workout classes to make people think they look bigger than they really are. At least that is my conspiracy theory. Just like doctor's offices buy special scales that add a pound or two, don't you think? I think you look very nice in your pictures you post, but the Zumba class sounds fun and 500 calories is a ton. You go girl, Zumba away for mr too okay? And what the heck, you get to buy a new pair of shoes also? All the more reason to sign up!

Zumba sounds like lots of fun. I've heard of it, but I've never done it. The last dance class I took was a Salsa class, which I loved. I just posted on my blog (finally) and I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the invite to the get-together tomorrow. Alas, I've got 60 reserach papers to grade that HAVE to get done this weekend. Sigh. So I have to bow out this time, but I would so love to meet you all. That being said, if you guys plan another get-together, can I come? I promise I will make the next one!

I've done Zumba and I love it! An online friend of mine fell in love with the class she was taking at her local Y and after a few months (and 20 dropped pounds) she became an instructor! She got great deals on a 3-disk set of Zumba DVDs and I bought one from her. I've loved it sinse then. It's so much fun (and I get to do it in the comfort of my living room without mirrors)!

Thanks for the congrats this morning! I'll be thinking of you for your upcoming cycle!

That sounds really fun! Glad you told us all about the newest craze in exercise. Also, don't worry about what you look like next to the instructor...that's why I'm always in the back!

I've not heard of it, but itsounds fun. And EVERYONE looks less sleek next to the instructor, I'm sure that it's a little known law of physics
