This is wrong

Any sport which results in the participant having a HIGH risk of catastrophic injury and having to be euthanized is just plain evil!! I used to enjoy horse racing and watching it on tv with all of the romantic stories they tell about the jockeys and the trainers, etc. Seabiscuit is one of my favorite movies. I watched the Kentucky Derby on TV today and ended up sobbing afterward when they announced that Eight Belles was injured and put down. The animal lover in me is paying attention to the reality of this sport. Hundreds of horses die each year in this country because they are injured on the track. Hundreds others are put down simply because they aren't fast enough. Horses have spindly little legs and aren't meant to race for a freakin mile! Horses can run fast, but in the wild they sprint for only short distances. Would you like to be beat with a whip and forced to run around a track until your legs broke? This makes me sick.

Kelly,
COMPLETLY agree!! I've had several ask me if I was watching the KD and I said, "No, I don't believe in it". One of my favorite responses is, "they are treated very well!" Is that right?? Having to be euthanized is treating them well? How about not even putting them at risk for this!! Just disgusting! I'm with you girl!

I watched it too and felt sick after. How could the winners celebrate like they did knowing that one of the horses was euthanized on the spot. It seems so cruel.

They kill them if they break legs or are injured? I didn't know that! Oh my goodness...I'm actually sitting here crying and this response is taking awhile to write. That is so sad! I totally agree, how cruel and inhumane. We should put down the owners when they get the stomach flu then too.
