Spain beat Italy in the European Cup Soccer Quarterfinals!!! Ole! They were tied after regulation and overtime, so it came down to penalty kicks and Spain won 4 kicks to 2! Unfortunately Tony and I didn't get to go watch it in Windsor's Little Italy because I totally forgot until yesterday that I had to go to a baby shower today. Ooops. Therefore I went to the shower and Tony watched most of the game at his parents' house and then met me at home towards the end of the game. We watched the overtime period and penalty kicks together, each of of screaming for opposites teams. It was so much fun!!! Now my team will play against Russia in the semi-finals. Go Spain!!!
Okay now to the baby shower. That was a lot of fun too. It was for my friend Lynn, who is 35 and a fellow infertile. She has PCOS and her husband has morphology issues, but after almost 2 years of trying, they got pregnant on an IUI. She is having a boy in August. I'm very happy for them. The shower was at her cousin's house in Birmingham, a beautiful, old, and affluent suburb of Detroit. It was an absolutely beautiful house, very large, built probably in the 1940s, with the most gorgeous woodwork and leaded glass. I was drooling over the window treatments! I actually took several pictures of the drapes when no one was looking, so that when my hubby let's me get our living room and other bedrooms decorated, I'll have some ideas.
Anyway, back to the baby shower. Her girlfriends and family put on a lovely shower with great food, not too many annoying games, the cutest cupcake tower and great favors/prizes (which I forgot to take). One of her friend's came up to me and told me that Lynn had told her about our fertility struggles and that she had done IVF many, many times. She has 2 little boys through IVF and just got pregnant with her 3rd after 2 fresh IVFs and 2 frozen cycles......and she's 42! I shared with her that we would be doing donor eggs, and she said they had considered it, but she just wanted to keep trying with her own eggs. As I was leaving she caught me at the door and said she would pray for me. That made me feel so good and I left the shower very happy and hopeful, not depressed or jealous at all. Here are a few pictures of the day.

So nice that you enjoyed the shower and those windows look good!
I love a woman (or a man!) that appreciates window treatments!
How'd it feel to say you were using donor eggs? Any hesitation on your part to say it? Hope you don't think I am prying, but I myself think I have come to terms with things but then have a difficult time really saying it to people...and then the flip side is saying once makes it easier the next time.
Erin - I didn't feel funny at all telling her because I knew she had to think about DE in her case as well. However earlier in the evening I was talking to another friend of Lynn's and I wasn't as open with her about DE. She asked me if we had considered adoption and I told her we had talked about it, but that we weren't ready emotionally to take that step.
I've actually been pretty open with a lot of people about our plans to use donor eggs. Probably more open than Tony would like me to be. However I look at it like this - if I were to adopt a baby, I would be open about that, I wouldn't try to hide the fact that the kid was adopted or feel ashamed that we adopted. I look at DE as a "half adoption" - does that make sense. I certainly won't be telling the neighbors, but I feel fine with my friends and family knowing. I tend to be more of an open book personality, and my husband is much more private, so I do have to be conscious of that and be careful to whom I open up.
Go Spain!! I never realized Russia had a soccer team, that just seems weird to me.
LOL, I love Birmingham. It's one of my favorite places to hang out. And yes, house snoop.
Looks like it was a fun shower and you met some really nice fellow infertiles. Love the kitchen valances, too cute.
Go Spain!
So glad you enjoyed the baby shower (and got to sneak in pictures of the window treatments! Remind me to clean the cat hair off mine if you ever come visit!) It must be nice to meet other people who can empathize with IF.
If we're meeting somewhere I can bring Charlie, I'd be happy to bring him - I think he'd do fine in the car. I must warn you though - I will not be leaving him in Michigan, no matter how you plead, so brace yourself for the cuteness...
My Dh is from Italy so I thought of you as he watched the game.
It's nice you were able to have a nice time at the shower.
I'm glad you had fun at the shower and got to catch up with some people who can relate to the journey a bit. That always makes me feel so good inside. Birmingham homes always make me drool, I would love to move there someday - but I know that it probably is not in the stars :-)
I'm glad your team won. As far as the restaurant - it was Signature Grille, nothing too fancy, but the food was good. As my husband and friends said, the drinks were very good. I'll have to return when I can enjoy a martini or two :-)
