Spain is in the final!!

Spain beat Russia yesterday 3-0 in the European Cup Semi-finals! That means that Spain will play Germany in the championship game on Sunday. Unfortunatley we have a graduation party that day so it is unlikely that I will get to see much of the game. However I called my dear friend Gema in Madrid this morning and told her congratulations. She was on her way to the playa with her hubby and kids, but said that they went crazy after last night's win over Russia. I emailed a few other friends in Spain and they are all excited!! Spain hasn't been to the finals in 24 years and they haven't won the European Cup since 1964......needless to say this is a VERY BIG DEAL!

I didn't grow up a soccer (futbol) fan, but when I lived in Madrid, my office was across the street from the Soccer Stadium (Estadio Bernabeu) where the professional team Real Madrid played. I went to a few games and that is where my interest in soccer began. The games were a lot of fun, the crowd would sing and chant for their teams. It was a total blast!
