Monday at lunch time I went to the pharmacy and filled the Prometrium script that Dr. M had written for me that morning to bring on a period after my mock cycle. The pharmacist told me that it can cause dizziness and not to drive on it. I didn't really think of it as a "warning"....oh but I should have.
I drove home, continued working, and popped a pill since I'm supposed to take it twice per day. I figured why wait until tonight? 15 minutes later I got up to go to the bathroom because I needed a "fluid-level-adjustment" prior to my next conference call for work. As I sat upon the toilet I started spinning. Oh no, I thought, what have I done? The pharmacist warned me, but I figured it would be fine since I typically have no reactions to drugs. OMG what am I going to do on this conference call when I have to talk?
I emailed one of my co-workers who was also on the call and warned him that I had just taken some medicine and if I sounded drunk that is why! He laughed, but somehow I survived the call without slurring my words too badly (at least I think). By the time I got off this call I was totally wasted - spinning, couldn't walk straight, etc. I headed straight for the lazy boy chair and crashed for about 2 hours. I slept it off for the most part. Half way through the nap the phone rang and it was Nurse D at RMA, I told her that I was currently high on Prometrium and that this was not going to work. She told me to take it for a couple of days and if it didn't improve, she would have Dr. M put me on something else. Yeah right lady - if you think I'm taking this stuff again tomorrow morning you are the one on crack. Okay so I didn't say that, but maybe I did, considering I don't really remember much of the conversation since I was totally wasted at the time.
I recovered by early evening, and never did tell Tony about it. He would've gotten upset and called Dr. M. I did take another pill at night and it was fine, it knocked me out; I slept like a baby and woke up just fine. I called the nurse back yesterday to see if I could just take 1 pill at night for more days, or if I could take 2 pills at night because there is no way I'm taking that stuff again during the day. She didn't call me back yesterday, so being that Dr. M and I are buds, I emailed him directly and told him that the nurse didn't call me back (yes I'm a tattle tail), and I would like to know what he wants me to do - take both pills at night, or put me on some other non-hallucinogenic wonder drug to bring on my period. This is why I love my doctor - he emailed me back last night and apologized for nurse D not calling me back, and he told me to take both pills at night and let him know how it goes. Unfortunately I didn't check my email after 7 pm, and so I didn't see his response until this morning, but I'll try the 2 pills tonight. Hopefully I will wake up tomorrow!!
At least I know how to get drunk off my a-- really quickly! haha

Scary!!! I hope that things level out for you, or they find something else for you to take. I've never taken the stuff, so don't even know what it's for.
Thanks Tracy. Prometrium is to make my period start. It is a form of progesterone, so I take it for 10 days to simulate the luteal phase (but since I didn't ovulate on the mock cycle no actual luteal phase). So then I stop it and my period will start late next week.
I'm hoping that I'll do okay by taking both pills tonight. If not, Dr. M will have to put me on provera or just give me a shot to bring on AF.
Wow that's a strong reaction. I used to feel slightly dizzy sometimes but now I feel nothing at all. Not a thing.
Thanks for your comment on my antral count. I was wondering about that. I'll be interested i what my Dr says. My first instinct was to cancel but I was trying to be positive. But there is a difference between and positive and stupid. I'm just not sure my counts are going to get any better.
Yikes - I've never taken prometrium, but it sounds like powerful stuff. Kind of like martini powerful! Hopefully you'll do fine with the two pills at night - because yeah I agree with you that it doesn't sound feasible to take any during the day. I just saw your response to tracy - so if not I hope they can give you something else. Taking it in the morning would kind of be like pre - partying for work, huh? Except flavored martinis probably taste a lot better :-) Hope you're feeling better soon there!
Wow, what a crazy reaction. I didn't know it could cause "drunkeness". I took it once but don't recall any side effects.
It actually didn't even start my period, I had to get the big needle in the bum! LOL
Hope it goes smoothly from here on out.
Thank you for your sweet words on my blog. I really do appreciate the support. Hopefully things will turn around soon and I'll be posting happier things!!! :)
Wowza! I only used the vaginal progesterone and the PIO shots, so I have not had that experience. Have you ever taken a Vicodin?? I took one during my OHSS and I wondered how in the h$%& so many of my patients take 8 of those per day!!
Your weekend with DH sounds really intriguing. I can't wait to hear about the suprise!
