Labor Day

I know, I know. Long time no post about anything other than recipes. I've been super busy at work and with the soap biz, which leaves little time for blogging.

Tony and I had a nice holiday weekend. We went to Ohio again, this time to attend a benefit dinner. My step sister has a twelve year old daughter with autism, and her and her husband started a foundation a couple of years ago to raise money to build a "Life Center for Autism". Their goal is to build a center for autistic children and adults to come to for social activities, recreation, to learn vocational skills, and provide support for caregivers in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Her biggest wish for her daughter Emily is that she never feels alone and has friends. Emily is an amazing little girl and although she cannot talk, she can love - with her hugs, humming to songs, riding her horse, and petting dogs. Anyway the benefit dinner was a ton of fun. My dad came with his walker, he's getting around pretty well now. We enjoyed a nice dinner, Debbie gave a nice talk, and then showed a tear jerker movie about Emily and the goals of the foundation. They had a Silent Auction, a Chinese Auction, an Entertainer who sang all sorts of Elvis and oldies songs, and finally an area to gamble with play money. We played blackjack for a while. They raised over $75,000 that night. I think they are 2 to 3 years away from raising enough money to build the center and get it going. If you want to learn more about it go to LifeCenterforAutism.org

Sunday we drove back and took the scenic route along the Lake Erie Coastline, that was fun. Today we are just hanging out at home getting caught up on cleaning, laundry, etc. Nothing too exciting.

We decided not to get that house. Although we love the actual house, we don't like the location. It's a small lot, and it's a nice subdivision surrounded by all really old subs, plus the taxes are ridiculous. We like it better where we live, so we decided that in a couple of years we will look for a bigger house north of here, or maybe build one.

No news on the donor. Tony has been doing a lot of research, but honestly I think he is just finding other clinics across the country who have pictures of their donors online. I don't believe he is finding donors who are actually available to come to our clinic. I'm not worried about it because honestly I am so busy I don't have time to worry about it right now. I think it is doubtful that we will cycle this year.

Sounds like you had a great weekend, and it also sounds like you are in a great place with your donor search. How wonderful to give your hubby the space to try to work it himself.

Thanks for the comments M'Dear!

That fundraiser sounds WONDERFUL! And the cause, it sounds FREAKIN AWESOME!

Some place they *might* want to check out, as far as operations of such a center: http://penrickton.com/

Penrickton is a daycare/home for blind & multiply handicapped children. Obviously, their focus is different, but they do some AMAZING things with active learning & other therapies. Just thought I'd pass it along!

The nice thing about donor eggs is that there really isn't a rush. I felt rushed about using my own eggs...ever month they just got older. Now if it takes a few months...ok....that just leaves me more time to save my money and enjoy my life.

It sounds like you guys have a great time together visiting family and friends.

I'm sure you made the best decision keeping your current place for now. Something perfect will come along one day!

It's nice to know that I'm not alone taking it slow with the IF these days. :) Thanks for the comments, you rock!
