Today my grandma celebrates her 99th birthday. She was born on September 5, 1909. Can you even fathom that? I cannot, but it's fun to imagine what her life was like as a child. She lived on a farm with lots of cows and horses. She loved to dance as a young woman. Today I am imagining that 99 years ago my great-grandmother was pregnant with a big round belly and at some point she went into labor. I'm sure she delivered at home without any pain meds. My grandma was her third daughter. She had a son too, but honestly I don't know if he was younger or older than my grandma because he died way before I was born.
Grandma has completely recovered from her illness that had her hospitalized in July. She zips around the nursing home with her walker and can care for herself pretty well. She can't see well, but I'm hoping she can sort of see, touch and smell the flowers that I am having delivered today from my sister and I.
Thanks for your kind words yesterday about my friend Anne. I'll keep you posted. I also apologize to any of my readers whom I offended with my swearing. I don't swear a lot and I try to be a good Catholic Christian, but sometimes when I get angry - my potty mouth emerges.

Wow! 99 is amazing. You've got some good genes.
And no worries with the cussing. Some of the most "devout" priests at our Catholic church when we were kids were always overheard cursing and drinking whiskey!
99 is really amazing - and that she is doing so much better is great.
I wouldn't worry about the swearing - I'm sure even the most devout would agree with your sentiments.
Sorry for the absent blogging - but I'm so happy to hear your grandma had her 99th birthday! It is amazing to thing of what things were like way back then. Must had been so very different. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers that she makes it to a nice 100th birthday as well :-)
Wow! How times have changed, and what she must have seen.
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope they caught it early and the treatment needed is minimal.
i'm sorry about your friend. i watched the telethon for cancer last friday nite...cried thru the whole thing. they said that one in three americans will be affected in their lifetime. that's freaking terrifying. anyway, your birthday plans sound fantastic.
