In theory I am very happy that I got my job back at EDS. I love my manager, I love my actual job, my client, I can work at home, etc. I am grateful to have a job, especially considering my husband does not. One of us has to have an income and health insurance, and I do. However a few days after I found out I was getting my job back - EDS, or rather HP (I supposed I work for HP now, considering they bought EDS last year), announced a 5% pay cut for all employees worldwide. However it is no secret that in many countries the pay cuts will not take place because of employee protection laws. Although we (we being me and all my buddies at work) were all disappointed with the 5% pay cut, we were still happy to have a job and decided we could live with the pay cut.
However (I know I'm using that word a lot), on this past Friday at 5:07 pm Eastern Daylight Time, when many employees would have been heading out the door to their weekends, an email was sent out to all employees announcing an additional 10% pay cut over and above the 5% for the month of April only and only for US EDS employees. The email wasn't even signed by anyone in particular - it was signed by the EDS leadership team - HP CEO Mark Hurd didn't even have the coursesy to sign his name to it. The even bigger kicker is that it is NOT in effect for the non EDS-HP employees, only for those of us on the EDS side of the house. EDS is the only profitable division of HP!!! It is due to HP acquiring us that they are even coming close to their profit targets. EDS services are selling, while HP computers are not! I was extremely pissed when I saw that email, however I didn't want it to ruin my weekend so I put it out of my mind. However today I spent some time reading financial blogs about this announcement as well as many comments from anonymous EDS employees and now it has me very angry. Tarzan tells me not to get my knickers in a knot because it is what it is, and to a point I agree. However I will not be surprised at all if on May 1st we get an email from CEO Mark Hurd telling us that the 10% is no longer temporary, and a permanent 15% pay cut is being put in place. Meanwhile Mark Hurd brings home $40 million a year. That is like going back to what I was making 8 years ago - give me a freakin break!
If I get pregnant, and Tarzan gets another job, then I will just coast my way through the rest of this year, use my long-term disability and FMLA. Then I guess I really won't care much about my job - if I can work part-time that would be spectacular, but if we can afford for me not to work - even better. If I do not get pregnant and children do not become a part of our lives, then you can bet your bippy that I will be getting my PMP certification, finding a better paying job, and telling HP to kiss my butt on my way out the door.
Okay I feel better now. I know my DE cycle is going to work and none of this will matter because I'll have more important things to think about.

You have every right to vent..that sounds so unfair! I'm sorry...I hope that things continue to work out on the DE cycle and like you said that no of it will matter long term anyways. That's what I'm going to keep hoping for you! ((hugs))
You tell it, girl! Vent here all you want, and then you can put up with the BS at work for as long as you need to (hopefully not that long!)
OMG, I would be hugely pissed too! I hope those idiots figure things out quickly and give you guys bonuses when this blows over.
But more importantly, the donor cylce is going to be a huge success, and it won't matter!

yes the pay cuts do suck! I work for a large bank based out of the midwest and i think a pay cut may be coming as well! I too am happy to have a job, but the cut does suck!!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Scott has had some cuts, too, but we both agree that now is not the time to make waves. Hang in there.

And I don't know what it is, but I totally giggled at you getting your PMP certification.
