Donor Update

Here's the deal. While we were waiting to get our answers back from the agency regarding the New Jersey donor whom we were interested in, I took out an advertisement anonymously to see what kind of responses I would get. Surprisingly we got several emails of interest, some were from women who didn't meet the requirements, but we got several who did meet them. Most of them sent a picture with their initial email, if we liked them, then we sent out a 10 page questionnaire for them to complete (I just copied my clinic's donor profile). We are still awaiting the return of a couple of the questionnaires. However we have received two back and we really like them. Both are very young, Italian, meet the height requirements and are smart too. Both women are from out of state. There is one local applicant who is older, but also looks really good - we are hoping to receive her completed questionnaire anytime.

Tarzan and I sat down to review all of the donors and realized we have 4 to choose from. However I wasn't satisfied with his communication back and forth with the agency, so I asked to take over. He agreed saying "you got more accomplished in 3 days than I did in 2 months". Can you see me smiling?

I did finally look at the picture of the NJ agency donor and she looks very much like me - similar facial features, eyes, body type, etc. I wanted a few things answered so I contacted the agency and introduced myself as Tarzan's wife. There was a sticking issue of donor compensation. Come to find out New York and New Jersey donors get an ungodly amount of money for their compensation. I'm sorry, but I am from the Midwest and I absolutely refuse to pay that much money. If East Coasters want to pay that much fine, but there is no way we are going above the standard $5k. I mean we'd have to pay the agency fees of $4500 and legal fees as well! I attempted to negotiate with the agency, but no dice, so I said thanks but no thanks. Bye, bye donor who looked very much like me. I'm totally fine with it because I questioned a couple of other things about her anyway.

Depending on if we get the completed questionnaire back from the local donor we liked, we may be down to 2 choices - the out of staters. Both young women are wonderful on paper - super cute, smart, athletic, tall enough (shorter than me, but not too much), the all important Italian, articulate, caring, and available!!! I have a message into the Donor Coordinator to see how we get the donor we choose tested at a fertility clinic near where she lives. I know a lot of people think we would be crazy to find our own donor, but she is going to go through all of the testing that any donor would through our clinic. Only if she passes will we go forward.

So that's the update!

You are rocking! And way for Tarzan to bow down to your superiority!
I totally agree on the east coast thing - no sense in paying all those extra fees and then travel too.

Happy Thanksgiving!
