My Christmas Traditions!

I decided to write about my Christmas Tradition...motivated by Tracy. On Christmas Eve we usually go to the 4pm mass at my mom's church (it used to be mine, but now that I'm married, we live an hour away so we belong to a different parrish). Then we go to one of my cousin’s or my aunt/uncles house on my mom’s side - there are about 40 people there, a ton of kids. We eat finger foods (but really good appetizers!), play fun gift games (white elephant, the dice game, etc.), and then we do karaoke with the machine and everything. One of my young cousins is a singer (she sang at my wedding and had everyone in tears during her Ave Maria), and so she usually starts the karaoke going. My husband always refers to this party as “the party where we get to see drunk Uncle John”….yep that’s it!

Christmas morning Tony and I will open presents, while I start the tradition this year of making an egg casserole and coffee cake (my sister has done this for years, but now that I’m at my own house on Christmas morning, I’ll start the tradition). Of course it's a lot to eat for just Tony and I, so I look forward to the day that we have some kids to help eat the traditional breakfast! Then we are hosting Christmas Day Dinner this year, this will be my first ever Christmas Dinner!!! I'm not doing all of the cooking however, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law are helping out. My mil is making Lasagna, bread and Italian wedding soup. My dad sent us a ham, which I'll heat up, my sil is making a salad and an appetizer. I'll be doing baked mashed potatoes, steamed green beans, roasted rep peppers with garlic, and a pumpkin pie for dessert. We'll also have angel food cake and fruit to dip in melted chocolate. Yes I know.......WAY TOO MUCH FOOD!!!

One tradition that I want to do once we have kids is making a birthday cake for Jesus and singing happy birthday to Him. I think it's a great way to remember why we are celebrating Christmas, and kids can relate to that. I also want to have an advent candle ring next year, this year we didn't have one, but next year we will.

I'd like to end this tradition post with a prayer of thanksgiving to God.

Thank you God for everything I have in my life - the love of an amazing husband, my mom, dad, sister, brothder in law, 3 nieces, a nephew, and a new baby on the way for Tony's brother and sil, fabulous in laws, friends, my health, a beautiful home, and my feline babies Claudio, Pachi and Guido. I am so blessed. I pray that someday you bless us with a baby.

P.S. - I already know how I'm going to decorate the baby's room - with a dog and cat theme.

We always talk about traditions we'll start once we have children, too. I am going to try to knit an advent calender, but maybe just going with candles is better!

What are you doing up at 3:46 posting this???

I love it! Wonderful traditions, especially the birthday cake. I want an advent calendar, too. Most of all, I want a nativity scene. I always loved putting my mom's out when I was growing up, but I don't have one. I miss that.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas, and I, too, hope that God blesses you with a baby soon.
