Tarzan and I made the decision this weekend to try and lease our house. We are sick of living apart, and it doesn't look promising for him to transfer with Siemens from Chicago back to Michigan. However he does have a potential opportunity for a transfer to Orlando, FL, so we'll see. He doesn't want to sell our house due to the market prices. Houses in our sub are selling relatively quickly, but for much lower $ than he wants to sell it for. We are hoping to be able to turn this house into a long-term lease house for ex-pats. Volkswagen and Chrysler are nearby and they have a lot of ex-pats from Germany and Italy. I'm sure there are a dozen other companies in the area who also have ex-pats on long term assignments here. Now the hard part is figuring out how to lease it.
Once we do lease it, I'll move to wherever Tarzan is - whether that be Chicagoland or Orlando area. I haven't been to Florida since I was 7 years old and I'm not sure I would be able to handle the heat in the summer. Thus I have it all planned out - if I can't stand the heat I'll go to Michigan and live at my mom's in the summer- haha. I'm guessing I will prefer Florida winters over those in Michigan. If anyone knows anything about Orlando and can suggest areas to live - feel free to leave a comment. Then again I shouldn't get too excited about Orlando when Tarzan hasn't even interviewed for the position yet - he and the manager down there keep playing phone tag. If we move to Chicagoland, I can take the train back and forth to visit my mom and sister in Port Huron, MI.
Wherever and whenever we end up, we are planning on leasing instead of buying - at least initially. We don't want to get tied down, plus between the two of us we already own 4 houses, so we are thinking it is best to just rent in Chicago or Orlando, that way we can be flexible wherever Tarzan's job takes us.
That's the latest, now let's see how long it takes to rent this house.

4 houses? Ugh. I hated when we owned three and was so relieved to see the his and hers sell and we only had ours. And now I am glad the ours is gone and we'll be renters letting someone else worry about the upkeep. So much time goes into home ownership.
I do not know how you've done it so long living apart. I miss Charlie terribly and am so lonely without him. Good luck figuring things out, Kelly. Moving stinks, but hopefully it will just mean a new adventure.
Oh no! Though I'm happy you will get to be with Tarzan again, I am so sad I may lose my coffee buddy! :(
By the way, thanks so much for coming to my party last weekend! I hope you guys enjoyed it! I loved having you guys there! You are both so fun to be around!
4 houses? Wow! I hope the leasing thing works out for you guys and I'm so glad you're going to be together again soon. I think leasing makes a lot more sense than buying in this market; I'm sure you could get a great deal in FL.
